Capacity Building Trainings and Joint meetings organized by Wabe Children’s Aid and Training (WCAT)

WCAT as one of the long standing partners of Kinderpostzegels Nederland in Ethiopia which is actively implementing child marriage and child labour programmes since 2003. As part of sustainability of programmes, Joint meeting, tailored Capacity building training, Linking and Learning and sessions were organized by Wabe Children’s Aid and Training (WCAT) for stakeholders, partners and staff at Bahir Dar City from 27-30 June 2024.

The main objective of the meeting was to ensure the sustainability and implementation capacity of partners’ in child marriage projects in Ethiopia being supported by Kinderpostzegels Nederland. The core agendas of the meeting were tailored capacity building training on networking, partnership, communication, Result Based Management in projects and programmes, planning, monitoring, evaluation, learning and accountability, grant and financial management. Staff members have also discussed on major programme, finance and management regulations and policies.

The three rounds of meetings and trainings each with a duration of two days were very impressive, participatory and inclusive. The number of participants in the first, second and third sessions were 30, 24 and 20 respectively. The training strategies were small group discussion and presentation. The resource persons for the trainings were highly experienced trainers from AMREF, Plan International and IRC and facilitated by the Head office of WCAT.

Besides, briefings on major results and progresses of Kinderpostzegels supported projects in 2022/23 and 2023/24, Good practices and lessons learned, Opportunities and threats,  challenges and ways to overcome challenges, Sustainability and ways forward have been dealt and shared in the session by WCAT, partners and signatory offices from South Gondar Zone.

The major outcomes of the meeting and training were enhanced knowledge and skills of the programme and finance staff.  In addition, major achievements of projects identified, good practices and lessons shared, challenges identified and ways forward for sustainability of projects in place. The strategies for collaboration between partners and stakeholders have been internalized for developing joint resource mobilization. Trainees from partners and stakeholders have been empowered on project planning, monitoring, evaluation, learning and accountability and could internalize project sustainability, scaling up and best practices.

Participants of the meeting and training emphasized on the need for further tailored capacity building sessions to enhance the performances of partners in Ethiopia and thereby ensure sustainability of results in child marriage projects being implemented by partners of Kinderpostzegels in Ethiopia including WCAT.
